Erith Yacht Club/Greenwich Yacht Club/Thurrock Yacht Club Frostbite Race 2009

Following a week which gave us the worst snow in London for 18 years 23 boats braved the cold weather to start the Annual Frostbite race from Greenwich Yacht Club. The light westerly wind gave a run down the London River to the finish line at Thurrock with most yachts flying colourfull spinnakers. The sun actually came out for a while to make it quite pleasant for the crews peering out through layers and layers of clothing. Erith yacht Grand Panjandrum took line honours but on handicap the conditions favoured the lighter and slower boats and Greenwich's Hunter Medina Kingfisher took the leg on handicap. The fleet beat back over the ebb to Erith Yacht Club where there was a meal and social aboard Clubship Folgefonn. Sunday's leg was a beat in an even lighter South Westerly wind from EYC up to Greenwich Yacht Club. Positions changed all the time 2 Erith boats fighting for line honors, Fairtrade getting them by a few seconds from Grand Panjandrum. Kingfisher again to the leg on handicap
