Cadet Day, Southmere Lake, Thamesmead. 19th July 2008
Another great success! The annual summer cadet day, free to those kids
who want to have a go for the first time or just a chance to have a go
again.
20 young people took part ranging from 3 - 15 years. All the boats were
put to use including Optomists, Mirrors, Topper, Laser and Omega.
The weather was good to us with only a one quick spell of rain. The day
started at 9.15 with the youngsters collecting their safety equipment
and boats from the storage area and then taking responsibility for getting
a boat to the lake. With their boats rigged, they were off. The day is
an opportunity for all those regardless of skill or experience. This year
over 50% had not sailed before and they strengthened in confidence throughout
the day. After a brief break for lunch, they were all back in. Once the
boats and equipment were all safely back in store at 3pm some very tired
but happy children retired for the day!
